Physical Education

At SCS, the focus of physical education (PE) is rooted in the belief that our bodies are divine gifts created to glorify God. Therefore, SCS highly values the development of the students' physical abilities to honor and serve Him. Through structured activities, games, and sports, students not only develop motor skills and physical strength but also learn teamwork, sportsmanship, and resilience. These elements foster physical, social-emotional, and spiritual growth for the students.

SCS middle school students participate in physical education classes twice per week, while elementary students engage in these classes one to two days per week, depending on their grade level.

The SCS physical education curriculum is aligned with Ohio's Physical Education Standards to ensure students are receiving comprehensive and high-quality PE.

Visual Arts

The visual arts program at Summit Christian School guides students through artistic expression challenges and experiences using a wide variety of art mediums. These experiences serve to enhance students' motor, language, and social skills.  Projects and assignments are designed to allow students to grow in decision making, risk taking, independence, and inventiveness.

While using God's gift of creativity and individual skills to make beautiful things, the focus of our classes is on the artistic process (rather than the end product) and the enrichment this experience can offer students.

Music and Performing Arts

The performing arts program at Summit Christian School takes a holistic approach with incremental instruction.

Our vocal music instruction begins in kindergarten with musical storytelling and rhythm followed by instruction in fundamentals of music in the elementary grades. Kindergarten and first grade classes learn songs and narrations, choreography, rhythm instrument playing technique, and basic notation.

Second through fifth grade students explore music theory more deeply with focuses on pitch, harmony, rhythm, meter, melodic scales, key signatures, dynamics, and intervals. In third grade, students learn to play the recorder to exercise their understanding of music theory.

The Middle School Performing Arts classes are designed to build upon the foundation of music theory knowledge and develop students’ performance techniques through specific instruction in dialogue, acting, and improvisational drama skills.
